Smith County Man Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assault

A Whitehouse man pleaded guilty Friday to sexually assaulting a young girl, beginning when she was 11.

Troy Dean Brown, 43, pleaded to five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child in the Smith County 241st District Court and received a nine-year sentence on each charge, Smith County Assistant District Attorney April Sikes said.

"The sentences will run concurrently (at the same time) and all rights to appeal are waived," she said. Brown admitted to sexually assaulting the victim, who is now a high school student. He now has five felony convictions and will become a registered sex offender for life, Ms. Sikes said.

The family requested this resolution so the victim could put these events behind her, and the District Attorney's Office believed this was a good resolution to the cases, Ms. Sikes said.

When the victim first told her mother of the abuse, the mother did not believe her daughter.

"In fact, she (the mother) filed an affidavit that she supported the defendant," Ms. Sikes said.

Brown will be eligible for parole after 4 1/2 years.

"But in crimes of this nature, coupled with the fact that there are five convictions, similarly situated inmates are serving the majority of the sentence received," Ms. Sikes said.
