December 19: Improving Lives
ROSES: To Rabbi Neal Katz, a leader whose behind-the-scenes work is making Smith County a better community.
Rabbi Katz has been an active community leader organizing many projects from Habitat for Humanity to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. remembrance march.
I know him best for the work he has done as a board member of PATH - People Attempting To Help. His leadership is exemplary. He clearly understands the difference between governance and management. He is always available to work toward solutions regardless of the time commitment required. For six years he has actively participated in efforts to expand PATH's capacity to help more people in more effective ways. He has led several board committees, was board president, planned multiple events, introduced new ways of raising funds, produced music CDs and concerts, wrote a beautiful and touching song for PATH, and finished his six-year tenure by implementing a youth essay contest titled "How I Can Help Fight Poverty."
His compassion for the well-being of others and his dedication to making PATH stronger has improved the lives of the thousands of people who come to PATH for help each and every day. Thank you, Neal, for helping those in need to find their own way.
