T. Boone Pickens Guest Speaker
At Rose Festival Men's Luncheon
Texas entrepreneur and energy activist T. Boone Pickens is the scheduled guest speaker at the Texas Rose Festival Men's Luncheon.
The luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Rose Garden Center.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling 903-566-7424 or logging onto the website texasrosefestival.com.
This year's festival, "Tapestry of Blessings," runs Oct. 14 to Oct. 16 and includes the Rose Show, Queen's Tea, Queen's Coronation and Texas Rose Parade.
According to a profile of Pickens on his website, boonepickens.com, he built the largest independent oil company in the United States and flourished as an entrepreneur after leaving it.
Financial World magazine named him CEO of the Decade in 1989 and Oil and Gas Investor magazine listed him as one of the "100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century."
When the Oklahoma State University graduate left Phillips Petroleum, he built Mesa Petroleum into an independent powerhouse.
During his career, Pickens has made hundreds of millions of dollars. The breadth of his philanthropy includes medical research, athletics, and academic projects. In 2006, his charitable activities, which included $175 million and the establishment of the T. Boone Pickens Foundation, placed him on the Chronicle of Philanthropy's list of top U.S. philanthropists.
His foundation focuses on improving lives through supporting educational programs, health and medical research and services, athletics and corporate wellness, the entrepreneurial process, at-risk youth, and conservation and wildlife initiatives.
