I would like to answer Dr. Nathan B. Greene’s letter. (Sept. 4 East Texas Mailbox.) Dr. Greene, do you expect me to believe that someone who has been a part of a congregation for 20 years feeding on “hate America, hate white people,” and who has been mentored by a former anti-America terrorist is going to have a 75-year old white grandmother’s interest at heart?

So John McCain has not lived up to your moral expectation, did Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, Franklin Roosevelt, Ted Kennedy and others? Did their morals render them unqualified to serve as leaders of the greatest nation in history?

And speaking of history, I believe history will teach that your judgment of George Bush has been through political party glasses.

There has never been a president of this great nation who has had to deal with more natural disasters, as well as an attack on our nation and way of life by an unseen army, with no procedure manual on how to handle it.

Yes, he has made some mistakes. Would you have done better? Governing from our rocking chairs is easy after the fact, but making those decisions during the crisis is much more difficult.

I am proud that I have lived long enough to see a young, brilliant black man nominated by a major party for president, but we don’t need more failed policies that don’t work to rule our lives.
