4 East Texas Groups Receive Funds To Fight Drugs, Violence
East Texas groups are among those receiving a portion of $3.9 million to combat drugs and violence and promote student achievement.

The funds are provided by a federal program and distributed by the governor's criminal justice division.

The awards for the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Fund include $24,763 to Adolescent Development and Achievement Pro-gram of Tyler, $26,009 to Troup Independent School District, $32,000 to Upshur County Sheriff's Office and $49,449 to Van Zandt County Juvenile Probation Department.
