So, Harrold school district, you want your teachers to have concealed handguns in class? Do your really?

Concealed handgun trainers tell us that we have to shoot an attacker before he gets closer than 21 feet, because inside that range, the attacker can still get to you even when wounded. And these trainers tell us that we should “double pump” the attacker to stop him. But it may not.

Consider this scenario: A teacher in class standing in front of the desk teaching. If you put the teacher at the center of a circle with a 21-foot radius, the circle will include nearly the whole class. So any potential attacker is already inside of that 21-foot buffer zone. Wow, what a dilemma. Will the real potential attacker stand up?

How about this? It’s after class and the teacher is sitting at the desk grading papers when someone knocks on the door. This person is invited in and is standing 22 feet away. The teacher can see the anger in this person’s eyes and knows he or she must do something before the attacker gets inside the 21-foot zone. But the attacker moves two feet toward the teacher. The teacher shoots, but the attacker reaches the teacher, takes the gun away, and shoots the teacher dead. The attacker also dies. Both are dead.

So, Harrold, you still want your teachers to have concealed handguns in class?
