August 30: Bang for School Bucks
I see that the Tyler school district is going to submit its wish list in a few months and spend thousands of dollars to get it through the voting process. I don’t know what most folks think. I would like to think most taxpayers are concerned about the quality of education, not only in Texas, but the country in general. I have watched school districts all over this nation spend money like drunken sailors for the last 40 years. The results for all the millions we have seen go down the black hole of education is minimal at best. All we get are some of the lowest scores in math, science, reading, history, and I could go on, but you either get the idea. I just don’t understand why parents and taxpayers who have a vested interest in the well-being of this country don’t demand better. Folks just don’t seem to care about it. Look at Dallas (DISD) making a bad system even worse.
Our education system has become a nearly worthless babysitter for the working public that is paying for this bureaucratic debacle. For decades I have listened to how districts will demand perfection, will increase the graduation rates, decrease the dropout rates, and create a better learning environment. Taxpaying citizens aren’t deaf, dumb, and blind. They want more bang for their hard earned tax bucks. Time will tell, but I won’t hold my breath.
