GLADEWATER -- Cardarian Lewis ran for 194 yards on 16 carries, including an 88-yard touchdown run, as the Gladewater Bears shut out the Center Roughriders 18-0 at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium on Thursday night.

The Bear defense allowed 180 total yards and nabbed two interceptions in keeping the Roughriders off the scoreboard. Gladewater also recovered one fumble.

After a scoreless, penalty-plagued first quarter in which Center amassed more penalty yards (15) than total yards (eight), the Roughriders began to build momentum when junior Jeremy Small intercepted a pass from Bears quarterback Dalton Waters at midfield.

Center quarterback Colton Thompson then led the offense down to the 4-yard line before Trenton Patton fumbled the ball back to Gladewater.

Two plays after the fumble, Lewis broke loose for the 88-yard touchdown run for the game's first score. A blocked PAT left the score at 6-0.

The Bears then defense forced a three-and-out and the offense took over at the Center 46 with 4:24 to go in the first half.

After running the ball five straight times, Waters found a wide open Terrence Leach for a 31-yard touchdown in the last minute of the half.

Gladewater failed the two-point conversion and led 12-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Gladewater capitalized on an interception from Thompson to extend its lead. The Bears marched 72 yards in 13 plays, capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run by Zavean Miller to make it 18-0.

The Bears finished the game with 253 rushing yards on 29 carries.

Waters threw eight times, connecting on four for 65 yards with an interception.
