August 29: Forde On Target
Hats off to Mr. Forde’s sardonic letter on Sunday about voting Democratic. It was perfect. Other letters from Mr. Bruner, Mr. Pierson, Mr. Urban, Mrs. Neely, Mr. King, and Mr. Bala are on target with their concerns of the next election. One letter claimed that some voters are demonizing Obama with character assassination. These kind of reactions come from ignorance about Obama. Why in the world would anybody want to celebrate his nomination? Just because he’s the first African American to be nominated? Forget it. Even if he were Caucasian-American, Chinese-American, or Hispanic-American, or red, white and blue, his political platform would still stink. Neither he nor Biden are ready for the executive branch. They have not been a governor, a mayor, or secretary of anything. Obama is a first-term senator.
Voters need to do some digging before they vote. Find out what Obama’s capital gains tax is. Check his numbers on income taxes. He also wants to restore the inheritance tax. Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches and homes that were in the families for generations because they could not pay the inheritance tax. Bush had repealed this tax. Now Obama is after the votes of the segment of America that he has failed to charm — the faith-based conservatives. However, in addressing a Call to Renewal Conference June 28, 2006, Mr. Obama said it was difficult to use the Bible to guide public policy. He read passages out of context in Deuteronomy and Leviticus. He sarcastically suggested the Department of Defense would not survive the application of the Sermon on the Mount.
True believers, however, know that Christ would never advocate turning the other cheek to terrorists and our enemies. Arrogantly, Obama mocked and ridiculed Scripture when he distorted the context in which they teach. He smugly continued with, “Folks have not been reading the Bible,” suggesting that we don’t know what’s in it. But Sen. Obama, the more obvious question is, do you?
