Camp Tyler Needs ‘Outdoor’ Volunteers
Volunteer Corner -- where volunteering through Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) makes the difference in the community.
Camp Tyler Foundation: Camp Tyler is located on approximately 400 acres of forest and farm land, on the shore of Lake Tyler West, located about five miles southwest of Tyler. Since 1949, volunteers have been the foundation of Camp Tyler. They are needed more today than ever, as the camp grows.
Camp Tyler is an outdoor learning facility that serves the Tyler Independent School District, as well as other school districts and youth organizations. CTF is looking for big-hearted volunteers who will plug in and take ownership of some of the different volunteer teams, such as the Nature Trail team, equestrian team, Farm Tour team and many more.
CTF is looking for gardeners, farmers, blacksmiths, carpenters, landscapers, welders, retired teachers, homemakers, past campers, nature lovers, and all kinds of folks from all walks of life.
To learn more, call Rodd at 903-262-1269 or e-mail volunteer@camptyler.org. Stop by the Web site at www.camptyler.org.
Legacy Hospice: Do you want to have a positive impact on someone's life during a period of need? Legacy Hospice is always looking for compassionate, caring people to interact with people, who are experiencing life-ending illness, or to assist in office activities. Volunteers can visit with patients in nursing facilities or at their homes, providing assistance with simple tasks, shopping, or just talking and sharing time with them. No special skills are needed except a willingness to serve and share with others. Contact Legacy Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Fred Carl for details at 903-509-1187 or www.legacyhospice.com.
Heart to Heart Hospice patients are waiting for volunteers to visit them. They are in nursing homes and in private homes and need someone to listen to them reminisce about their lives, to laugh with them, to read to them, and to love them. For more information, call 903-593-6619 and ask for Kay.
