August 24: F For Water Project
RANT: The Whitehouse City Council and administrative staff continue to "fiddle" while the citizens do a "slow burn."
Thanks to the Brannon Corporation and the City of Tyler, including Mayor Barbara Bass, Whitehouse has been offered the option for two water contracts that seem to me to be quite reasonable. The longer-term contract even offers a "no penalty," opt-out option should the Lake Stryker project of the mythical Lake Columbia project ever come to fruition.
When presented with the latest offer from Tyler, our council failed to act. They want more information. One council member called an agreement with Tyler an "expensive security blanket." I don't see that an adequate and safe supply of water to a growing community is a "security blanket." It is an absolute necessity.
The council seems to desire more information regarding the issue. Where was the hue and cry for more information when one of our wells was drilled without a contract? That little lack of information cost the taxpayers more than $100,000.
Another council member is quoted as saying we are "under budget" on the project to bring our well on-line. He gives the project an A-plus. I say, if the project is a failure so far, it deserves an F.
By the way, if our wells are on-line and we have had near record rain fall recently, why are we still under watering restrictions?
I urge all Whitehouse citizens to attend the council meeting on Aug. 26 and let your voice be heard, both pro and con.
