The University of Texas at Tyler Alumni Association is recognizing four graduates as the 2008 distinguished alumni.

Nelson Clyde IV, Bobbie Ogg and Bob Turner are recipients of the Professional Achievement and Attainment Award. Tina Busch is recipient of the Young Alumni Award, according to a prepared statement from UT Tyler.

The four outstanding alumni will be featured at a luncheon Oct. 10 at the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center.

"These individuals are excellent representatives of UT Tyler and its outstanding academic programs," Bobbye Rucker, alumni coordinator, said in a prepared statement from the university. "They are leaders in their professions, and we are proud to acknowledge them."

The Distinguished Alumni Award Luncheon will be one of several activities planned for UT Tyler's 2008 Homecoming.

"There will truly be something for all of the past Patriots to enjoy, and we'd like to get the community involved as well through sponsorship opportunities," Rucker said in the statement.

Clyde earned a bachelor of science degree in political science from UT Tyler in 1987. In 1989 he joined his family's business as a fifth generation participant along with his grandfather, father, uncle, brother, sister and cousins.

He serves as president of T.B. Butler Publishing Co., Inc., and publisher of the Tyler Paper and Tylerpaper.com.

Community and professional activities include UT Tyler Development Board, co-chairman of Grace Community School's "Building for Eternity," UT Tyler Patriot Golf Classic chair, city of Tyler Technology Task Force chair and Texas Daily Newspaper Association vice president.

He also serves on the board of T.B. Butler Publishing Co. and Citizen's 1st Bank.

Clyde was appointed by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst to the Elections Advisory Committee. He was co-recipient of the 1999 W.C. Windsor Award and was selected Citizen of the Year by the Sigma Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity at Texas College.

Ms. Ogg earned a master of science degree in nursing in 2006.

With more than 30 years of experience in nursing, she serves as divisional director of nursing at Trinity Mother Frances Healthcare System where she is responsible for the effective management of all maternal child, oncology, dialysis and medical departments.

Awards and recognition include UT Tyler Graduate Excellence in Nursing Award, Sigma Theta Tau Iota Nu Chapter award for excellence in nursing practice, UT Medical School at Houston recognition for student recruitment, Texas Health Occupations Students of America Spring Leadership Conference recognition for significant contribution, Out-standing Service Award for District 19 Texas Nursing Association and Tyler Junior College award for contribution to students in pediatric nursing.

Turner earned a master of science degree in technology in 1982. He is Tyler's city manager.

A certified community developer and time study technician, Turner has published articles in various professional magazines.

Community and professional activities include United Way of Tyler/Smith County Board chairman, East Texas Area Council/Boy Scouts of America campaign chairman, Castle Boy's & Girl's Club Collaborative Board chairman and member of Hospice of East Texas and Tyler Economic Development Council Board of Directors. A past president of the UT Tyler Alumni Association, Turner is a member of the International City Manager's Association, Texas City Manager's Association and Toastmaster's International.

Ms. Busch earned a master of arts in teaching degree in 2001. She is vice president of learning and performance at Pitney Bowes.

A member of the senior management team, she is responsible for developing and executing all learning and performance strategies for employees and customers within Mailing Solutions Management, the largest business unit of Pitney Bowes Inc.

Prior to joining Pitney Bowes in 2004, Ms. Busch was founding director of Training and Development/Corporate Services at TJC. Under her leadership, Corporate Services was awarded the Texas Workforce Commission 2003 Employer Award of Excellence and was recognized by the Texas Economic Development Council in 2004 for positively impacting the East Texas business atmosphere through workforce improvement initiatives.

A Leadership Tyler Class 17 alumnus, she is currently completing her Ph.D. in human resource development.
