August 14: Vigilance Important
If you think the Saudi are our allies, think again.

Several years ago I was employed at a Christian bookstore. A young woman I was acquainted with came in to buy a Bible with a plain cover, without the words "Holy Bible." It also had to be written as a novel with no numbers alongside the verses.

She and her husband were going to Saudi Arabia. Her husband worked for a large oil company. She explained when they would go through customs, her Bible would be confiscated and thrown in the trash. If it just looked like an ordinary book she might be able to get it through.

Also, any meetings she would have with other Christians would have to be kept secret. If you dared to share your faith you would be imprisoned. Does that sound familiar?

If you think Barack Obama will give us a change, you are right. Only you won't like what you'll get. We must not be lax in our vigilance. Our enemies would love us to believe in "change."

About socialized medicine, I have Canadian friends who tell about their plan. How would you like to be sick and find out the doctors are on strike, or you'll have to wait two or three months to see one?

My mother always told me, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is."

Government can't fix everything. We must take responsibility for ourselves.

I am 75 and my grandparents were Italian immigrants. They had no government handouts; they labored for everything and were proud to become Americans. They had three sons; the eldest served in World War I and the others in World War II. By God's grace, they all returned home and were proud to have served their country.

John McCain spent years in a prisoner camp, caged like an animal. He knows hunger, thirst and deprivation and has years of wisdom to lead us. There is no experience like the "real thing."
