Storms Rolling In This Weekend
Wednesday was sunny and dry in the region with comparatively comfortable temperatures and relative humidities.
Dry weather is likely again Thursday, before a major storm system sets up shop in the region over the coming weekend. Wednesday's surface weather map showed a high pressure ridge, centered over the Oklahoma Panhandle, which brought a north wind. This circulated slightly cooler and drier air into the region.
The ridge should slide east of the region by Thursday afternoon. This will return winds to the south, warm temperatures on Thursday, and rapidly increase moisture values starting Thursday night.
The next storm system was over Saskatchewan on Wednesday morning. It was forecast to drop down the Plains rapidly Thursday and Friday, and come stationary somewhere over the Southern Plains on Friday.
The upper air low will also pull a cold front southward, which will reach East Texas on Saturday. As a consequence, temperatures, after running near normal Thursday, will go back below normal starting Friday, and remain there through at least the middle of next week.
The cold front, disturbances associated with the upper air low, and the ample moisture will combine to bring general showers and thunderstorms from Saturday into Tuesday.
