Aug. 12: A Different View
RESPONSE: In response to Stephen Thompson’s Aug. 8 letter in which he is critical of the Congress taking a recess for August:

This has been going on for 200 years. Mr. Thompson indicates the energy crisis could have been solved, but the Democrats refuse to vote on the issue.

Our energy crisis is the result of the Republican Energy Policy established in 2000 when the Republicans had control of the Congress and the White House.

Furthermore, if drilling off the coast could solve the problem, why didn’t they do that? Why didn’t they release some of the reserves to lower the price of gasoline? Why aren’t the oil companies drilling on the 40,000 acres they now have leased offshore?

On a local TV station, Monday evening, our congressman said that we could have oil from ANWR in two years if we could drill there! Why didn’t he tell Bush this when they were preparing their energy policy?

I cannot understand why people will write letters when they completely ignore the facts.
