Clubs & Organizations: Expand Your Capabilities -- Publicize Your Events
The Tyler Morning Telegraph's annual Clubs & Organizations Reception will be held in a single session this year, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Rose Garden Center, 400 Rose Park Drive, Tyler.
Tyler and Smith County groups can learn how to publicize their events at the reception.
"The Tyler Paper has carried on a personal conversation with area clubs and organizations for the past 27 years through the Clubs & Organizations Reception," said Managing Editor Dave Berry. "I encourage every group, no matter how large or small, to send representatives to this annual event."
"While we often see familiar faces, in many years we find almost half of those in attendance are either new to Tyler or to the group they represent," Berry said.
"Two goals are to gather information from the nearly 250 groups that take part and to share whatever we can about the Tyler Paper and tylerpaper.com Web site," he said. "A third is to salute the spirit and vigor of the many volunteer members of those groups."
Following the information session, there will be chance drawings. Admission is free, and reservations are not required. Refreshments will follow the chance drawings.
The reception is open to club presidents and publicity chairmen of clubs and organizations in Smith County. This includes nonprofit service providers; civic, service, social, support, professional and study clubs; political parties and organizations; PTAs and school affiliations; auxiliaries; special interest groups; fraternal organizations; hobby and recreation clubs; and arts support groups.
Photographs of club presidents will be taken for use in the Clubs & Organizations Directory, and a presentation will be made on how to use the newspaper's editorial and advertising departments, as well as TylerPaper.com, to meet their publicity needs.
CLUB FORMS
To have an organization and a photograph of its president included in the directory, a representative from the organization must complete and return an information form and make sure a photograph of either its president or executive director is taken by the newspaper or submitted.
The Clubs & Organizations Directory will be published Thursday, Sept. 25. A directory information form may be obtained several ways: come by the newspaper office, 410 W. Erwin St.; call 903-596-6268; fax requests to 903-595-0335; or e-mail requests or information to features-@tylerpaper.com or jturner@tylerpaper.net.
In an effort to streamline the gathering of information, Community Editor Joyce Turner encourages more groups to send information by e-mail.
Forms are available and must be returned by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, to be accepted for the club directory. Organizations that were included in the directory last year will not be included this year unless a new form with updated information is submitted.
Photography makeup sessions are set from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, and 4-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the newspaper office for presidents who are unable to attend the reception. An organization can be included in the directory without a photograph of its president or executive director.
For more information, call Ms. Turner at 903-596-6268.
