Firefighter Who Battled Pilgrim's Pride Blaze Released From Hospital
MT. PLEASANT (AP) -- Mt. Pleasant fire officials say a firefighter has been released from the hospital after receiving minor injuries in a fire at the Pilgrim's Pride protein conversion plant. Firefighter/engineer Craig Eudy had said the firefighter was taken to a hospital Monday night.
Pilgrim's Pride spokesman Ray Atkinson said the fire started after 9 p.m. Monday in the protein conversion plant, not in the main chicken processing plant. When the fire started, employees were working but no injuries to them have been reported.
Eudy says "every available firefighter" was called to fight the fire. He says firefighters expect to be on the scene until daylight Tuesday, but he had no other details.
