ETMC Screens More Than 1,600 For Prostate Cancer
East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System screened 1,680 men during its annual free prostate cancer screenings, the hospital said.

Each June, ETMC offers free tests that can detect signs of prostate cancer. During the past 10 years, it has screened more than 27,000 men, ETMC said.

“Of the 1,680 men screened, 118 of the tests came back with abnormal values,” said Todd Sigmon, vice president of the ETMC Cancer Institute. “We have contacted those patients, advised them to have a follow-up with their physician or urologist, and helped facilitate those appointments as needed.”

According to American Cancer Society, prostate cancer kills 28,660 each year in the United States.
