Gladewater Woman Dead After 70-year-old Driver Blamed for 2 Wrecks
LUFKIN (AP) -- Police say a 70-year-old driver caused a fatal rollover accident after an illegal left turn in Lufkin -- then hours later started an eight-vehicle pile-up by rear-ending a stopped car.

Authorities say a medical advisory board will now review whether Isaac Melvin Milstid of Houston should have his driver's license revoked.

The case is also expected to go before a grand jury.

Diboll Police Chief Kent Havard said that to be going at a high rate of speed and not see vehicles stopped -- raises questions on Milstid's ability to drive safely.

A message left at a number listed for Milstid was not immediately returned.

Here's what police say happened;

  • Milstid allegedly made an illegal turn in Lufkin early Wednesday afternoon that caused a car carrying five people to roll.

    Seventy-five-year-old Bertress Allen of Gladewater was killed. A five-year-old was ejected onto the shoulder of the highway.

    Lufkin police say Milstid didn't show signs of being intoxicated or having health problems.

  • Four hours later, in Diboll, police say Milstid was going about 70 miles-per-hour before he rear-ended a car stopped at a red light. The accident caused a domino effect that led to accidents involving five other cars and a tractor-trailer.

    Milstid and two others were injured in the second accident. Milstid was cited for failure to control speed in the second accident.
