July 17: Tylerite Doesn't Believe In Recession Talk
Within the last two years the Republican Party's senior leadership has fallen into almost total disarray.
They do not seem to be able to confront Sen. Barack Obama's empty eloquence with any sense of cohesion. The party has no central theme to combat the Democrats' irresponsible journey toward political chaos.
The Republican choice for a presidential candidate seems to have been very bad indeed. Sen. John McCain is a gentleman and an outstanding patriot, but he should have been left in the Senate. He does not campaign with enough vigor and lucidness.
The senator criticized ex-Sen. Phil Gramm for expressing thoughts on one of the things that is very wrong with our economy. The citizens have been bombarded from all sides with the notion we are in a recession, which has no basis in fact. This "chicken little" syndrome feeds upon itself until the people begin to believe it is gospel.
This person who complains loudest about the economy is the individual who buys the latest expensive cell phone, the latest gadget for his computer and then realizes he cannot buy the TV set that costs thousands of dollars. In the interim, his standard of living has remained the same. That is not a recession.
