Today Is An Ozone Action Day
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issues Ozone Action Day warnings when conditions -- hot sunny days with little wind -- are favorable for emissions from plants and gasoline-powered equipment to "cook" in the sun and form ground level ozone. People who are very old and young and those who suffer from asthma and emphysema are particularly suseptible to breathing problembs that can be triggered by this ozone.

The TCEQ and the North East Texas Air Care, an organization working to improve air quality in the region, are advising people today to avoid exertion outdoors during mid-day to early evening hours and to reducing trips in cars, filling up tanks after 6 p.m. and postponing mowing until evening.

This is the first Ozone Action Day of the Year.
