Front Predicted To Bring More Showers
The much-advertised cold front turned out to be a bust, as the region continued warm and mostly dry on Thursday. The cold front became stationary along Interstate 30 Wednesday night, and had washed out by Thursday afternoon.

Another front is forecast into the region this weekend, with shower chances returning Sunday night and Monday. The sea-breeze was again relatively active, with some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms south of a Lufkin-Natchitoches, La., line by 4 p.m. These were moving northward into the remainder of the region at late-afternoon.

Otherwise, skies were partly cloudy to fair on Thursday, and temperatures were similar to Wednesday’s, and were near normal. Friday’s readings should run near Thursday’s, with Saturday temperatures rising by a couple of degrees.

Low readings Thursday morning were in the 70s, and were slightly higher than on Wednesday. Low temperatures Friday through Sunday should run in the 70s.

Afternoon highs Thursday were in the 90s, with similar readings likely Friday, higher readings Saturday, and lower temperatures forecast for Sunday. Saturday is shaping up to be the warmest day of the season thus far in the area, with temperatures reaching the middle to high 90s at most locations.

100-degree temperatures are possible over the southwestern counties, where soils are drier and vegetation not as lush.

Winds on Thursday were southerly at 5-15 mph. Winds should be southerly Friday and Saturday, with higher velocities both days, and become northeasterly behind the cold front on Sunday. The stronger velocities will be the result of low pressure deepening to our northwest ahead of the cold front.

Thursday’s average relative humidity was 66 percent, with lower values likely both Friday and Saturday.

Tyler’s high temperature of 94 came at 6:20 p.m., following the day’s low of 74 at 6:32 a.m.
