The Journey
Crystal Sands says that she knew at the ripe old age of 3 that she was going to be a singer.
She was the only graduate of her high school in Maryland to have a graduation photo taken in a cowboy hat.
When the rest of her classmates headed to nearby beaches with their friends for summer vacation, she headed straight to Nashville, with her father, to see just what her chances might be of making it in Music City.
While in Nashville for the CMA Music Fest, she was able to sing with a local band at Tootsie’s Orchard Lounge, an opportunity that served to fuel her ambition even more.
A chance meeting the next day with singer/songwriter Kelly Lang, led to a return trip to Nashville to record a three-song demo, produced by Lang with the T.G. Sheppard as overseer.
After an introduction to singers/songwriters Carl Ray and Wood Newton, they agreed to produce her debut album.
Her debut self-titled album for the newly launched Ah-Ha Music label has recently been released and is being aired on KKUS “The Ranch” in Tyler, KRDH in Canton, as well as on many other stations, including “Willie’s Place” on XM Satellite Radio.
If you would like to be highlighted in “Center Stage,” contact Entertainment Editor Lauren Keaton by calling 903-596-6301 or e-mailing lkeaton@tylerpaper.net. A picture must be included and you must have performed at two or more East Texas venues to be considered.
