July 10:Absurd Agreement
I'm sure most of us have received the latest mailing from AT&T, a residential service agreement.
They must assume all of us are lawyers or have daily access to attorneys. This latest masterpiece of absurdity is printed on both sides of a 9-page, fold-out, 9 by 12 inch, single spaces document.
I counted the words on one line and multiplied by the average number of lines on each page and then by (count them) an 18-page epistle and I estimate this thesis of the AT&T brain gang to be more than 10,800 words. Does one in his right mind at AT&T believe their "customers" will ever read this "book?" I'm betting they don't want us to read it in its entirety.
One line in there (if you can find it) demands that, "You agree that, by entering into this agreement, you and AT&T are each waiving the right to a trial by jury."
The entire piece is void of anything like graphics ... only words. I think if they had put a drawing of someone at the gallows we would "get" the message faster than having to take an entire evening of our time to read the 18 thousand plus words. What university law school did these nerds attend? I bet it wasn't one from Texas. Someone suggested they might be from another planet.
