July 6: Couldn't Hurt
RESPONSE: This rant is directed at the Father Joseph D. Pisano. It is a shame, that 10 years ago, he did not take the time to stop in Mineola or Tyler and meet some of these cold and sinful people, as he described in his letter.

About 35 years ago, my wife and I were looking for a nice place to settle down and raise our children after a career in the military. We found Mineola as a town full of loving people ready to do anything to help anyone in need. We have found Tyler to be the same way.

Ask some of the thousands of people who were fleeing the hurricanes and found shelter, food and medical care in both Tyler and Mineola.

A lot of them hated to go home and leave "these cold and sinful people." Do you really think the population as a whole in Mineola would condone such a crime if they knew it was happening? I think not.

If you are a man of the cloth, the next time you have frightening feelings while passing through a town, maybe which is a sign from God for you to stop and do a little preaching. Couldn't hurt.

Lester D. Griffith,
Lt. Col. USAF Ret.
Mineola
