Stay-cation Encouraged For East Texas Residents
Staying “home’’ this summer?

The Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau is hoping you do and has some incentives to help you decide.

The high price of gas is keeping many families at home – or at least nearer to home – this summer. So the Tyler CVB has launched a program to help families combat the high price of gas, at least if they stay in Tyler.

The “Stay-cation’’ program encourages families to become “tourists’’ in their own town and have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card to be given away each weekend, beginning this weekend and continuing through Aug. 30.

Check into any of the participating hotels – Holiday Inn Select, Hampton Inn, Quality Hotel, Travelers Inn, Residence Inn by Marriott, Sleep Inn and Suites and Holiday Inn Express South – and enjoy their amenities and see if you can win the gift card.

A coupon book featuring discounts to many of the attractions is also available at the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau office at 315 North Broadway Ave.

Coupon books include free admission to Caldwell Zoo, the Discovery Science Place and discounts at several local restaurants.

If your family is looking for other things to do around town, visit the Tyler Chamber of Commerce Web site at www.tylertexas.com and the community calendar link.

Events include concerts, children’s plays, gardening seminars and more.

For more information, call 1-800-235-5712 or www.visittyler.com.
