Volunteers In Policing Seek Help In Office
Volunteer Corner — where volunteering through DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) makes the difference in the community.

Volunteers in Policing: Looking for a chance to do meaningful work that will be a direct benefit to the city? Would you like a chance to work with Tyler Police officers? VIP needs someone to work with the Property Crimes Unit at the police department’s north substation. This person would be making follow-up calls to victims of property crimes, greeting clients, answering phones and other general office work. If you are interested, call 903-531-1071 or e-mail the director of Volunteer Services, Gary Lynch, at glynch@tylertexas.-com. There is an application process, background check and brief indoctrination session.

Trinity Mother Frances Respite Care Program needs volunteers who will be a friend to children with special health-care needs. This program helps parents who have a child with special health-care needs to obtain a few hours of rest and relaxation, while their special-needs child is being cared for by The Respite Program.

The program meets from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. every third Saturday each month. Individuals, age 14 and up, are eligible to volunteer. All volunteers must go through orientation and a background check. For a volunteer packet, contact: Annette Rios, TMF Volunteer Service, 903-531-4435, or Stephanie Hacker, TMF Respite Care coordinator, 903-595-3942, Ext 255. You can also visit http://www.tmfhs.org/tmfbody.cfm?id296.

Camp Tyler Foundation: Camp Tyler is located on approximately 400 acres of forest and farm land on the shore of Lake Tyler West, located about five miles southwest of Tyler. Since 1949, volunteers have been the foundation of Camp Tyler. They are needed more today than ever, as the camp grows. Camp Tyler is a premier outdoor learning facility that serves the Tyler Independent School District as well as other school districts and youth organizations.

CTF is looking for big-hearted volunteers who will plug in and take ownership of some of the different volunteer teams like the Nature Trail team, Equestrian team, Farm Tour team and many more.

CTF is looking for gardeners, farmers, carpenters, landscapers, welders, retired teachers, homemakers, past campers, nature lovers, and all kinds of folks from all walks of life. To learn more, call Rodd at 903-262-1269 or e-mail volunteer@camptyler.org. Stop by the Web site at www.camp-tyler.org.

Legacy Hospice: Do you want to have a positive impact on someone’s life during a period of need? Legacy Hospice is always looking for compassionate, caring people to interact with people experiencing life ending illness or to assist in office activities. Volunteers can visit with patients in nursing facilities or at their homes and provide assistance with simple tasks, such as shopping, or just talking and sharing time with them.

No special skills are needed except a willingness to serve and share with others. Contact Legacy Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Fred Carl for details at 903-509-1187 or visit www.legacyhospice.com.

Cancer Foundation for Life needs enthusiastic, caring volunteers to be an integral part of its program. CFFL is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for persons living with cancer and other chronic conditions by providing a physical conditioning (exercise) and psychological support (friendship) program.

Volunteer opportunities include motivational support to patients, assistance to clinical staff and office/clerical tasks. If you can spare a few hours a week, or even a month, call Emily Voss or Lindsay Grubbs at 903-561-0149. Visit the Web site at http://cancerfoundationforlife.org.
