Juillerat Makes Cut At Nelson Junior Golf Championship
DALLAS — Tyler’s Jeffrey Juillerat was among four East Texans to make the cut for the final round of the EDS Byron Nelson Junior Championship at Lakewood Country Club.
Juillerat fired a second consecutive 76 on Tuesday to make the cut on the number (10-over 152). He made 13 pars and five bogeys in the second round and is tied for 37th place.
Joining Juillerat for today’s action will be Daingerfield’s Jade Scott, who is tied for 11th at 5-over 147 (72-75); Hallsville’s Nathan Weant (tied for 16th, 148 (75-73); and Longview’s Jason Fiscus (tied for 37th, 152 (81-71).
The leader is Dallas native Jordan Spieth, who continued his stellar play with a second-round 69 to take a commanding seven-stroke lead into the final round.
Spieth, 14, began the day with a three-shot lead but quickly gave a stroke back to the field after an opening bogey on No. 10. He rebounded with birdies on Nos. 16, 17 and 1 to get to 2 under on the day.
Spieth made another bogey at the par-3 fifth hole, but came back with a birdie on No. 8 after hitting his approach to three feet.
Spieth is looking to add to an already impressive season. In March, he won the AJGA Championship at Traditions in College Station and was invited recently to represent the United States in the Evian Masters Junior Cup in England.
East Texans who missed the cut included Hideaway’s Jared Johnson (16 over), Tyler’s Daniel Webb (24 over) and Tyler’s Chapman Herwood (30 over).
Johnson carded a 74 on Tuesday, while Webb had a 79 and Herwood an 88.
