Fans Donated To Salvation Army
FAN-TASTIC: Michael Holmes, left, Stevie Burch and Mark Jones unload fans donated to the Salvation Army’s City of Hope, 633 N. Broadway Ave., for its annual summer free giveaway.
The Sonrise Prayer Breakfast Ministry donated 200 box fans to the Salvation Army on Thursday. The group meets weekly at a Tyler restaurant and made the contribution to help provide fans to the elderly, disabled and those with medical conditions.

“With the rising cost of utilities, food and gas, many senior citizens cannot afford the run their air-conditioning units during the day,” said information from the Salvation Army. “This could potentially lead to major health problems.”

The Salvation Army has been collecting fans for distribution for 30 years.

“Each year the Salvation Army distributes free fans, and thanks to the generous contribution from the Sonrise Prayer Breakfast Ministry, the donations of fans have gotten off to a good start,” the release stated.

Priority distribution this year is to those 55 and older, those with families with young children and the medically disabled. The Salvation Army is accepting donations of new fans at its administration office, building three, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at 633 N. Broadway Ave.

Call the Salvation Army at 903-592-4361, ext. 216, for information.
