June 22: Tech Triumph
RESPONSE: The best way to combat this so-called global warming is through technology. Some ill informed environmentalists have vehemently blamed American technology for our current dilemma. The congressional solution, via the Warner-Lieberman bill, would so decimate the economy that we could never recover.
It has never been unequivocally proven that human activity caused the build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Those earth first zealots would have us believe, that only a drastic reduction in our economic activity would cure the problem. If American technology has resulted in this conundrum, why not let technology get us out of it.
Building nuclear power plants, drilling for oil in the United States and environs, using pollution-free coal fired power plants to generate electricity, should be pursued relentlessly by the Congress. In doing so our country could not then be held hostage by any oil-rich nation. Our country's defense forces are tied to oil as surely as a suckling babe is tied to its mother's arms. As a result, our Armed Forces cannot respond to world trouble spots as forcefully as they should.
It is time to sit back, review our options, put forth a mighty integrated effort to solve our energy problems, and so what is best for our beloved country.
