Tyler’s 2008 sales tax revenue continued to forge ahead of last year’s as the city received $2.9 million from the Texas Comptroller’s Office Friday, 13.47 percent more than it received in June 2007.

The amount is part of $459 million in local sales tax allocations sent to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. Allocations are from sales in April that were reported to the comptroller in May.

In June 2007, Tyler received a $2.56 million sales tax allocation.

City Manager Designate Mark McDaniel said the figures make a “positive statement about Tyler’s diverse economy and the regional draw of our retail, dining, education and medical care.”

Since January, the city has received $18.96 million in sales tax allocations, 8.38 percent more than the $17.49 million it had received by the same time last year.

Other Smith County cities also fared well in their June allocations.

Lindale received $150,253, up from $142,062 last June. And Whitehouse was allocated $47,494, up from $45,110 in June 2007.

Longview received $2.06 million, up from $1.85 million a year ago.

Most of the other larger East Texas cities in counties around Smith County also received larger allocations than they did the same month a year ago. The numbers in parentheses are the amounts they received in June 2007:
