Tyler Junior College Forensic Team Wraps Up Year Of Successes
The Tyler Junior College forensic team brought home multiple awards from its trip last month to the Phi Rho Pi National Forensics Tournament in Saint Charles, Ill.
Travis Smith of Palestine won the gold medal in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Earning bronze awards were: Jordan Innerarity, Lindale, and J.P.
Fugler, Lindale, in parliamentary debate; Christina Ivey, Lindale, in poetry interpretation; Fugler in program oral interpretation; Bobby D. Anthony, Palestine, in prose interpretation; and Ivey and Innerarity in duo interpretation.
Three of the six TJC parliamentary debaters were placed in the top 50 debate speakers: Ivey placed eighth; Rachel Snyder, Lindale, 37th; and Innerarity, 42nd.
The TJC team placed eighth for debate sweepstakes and 16th for overall sweepstakes.
In mid-February, the team won first place in debate sweepstakes and third sweepstakes overall in the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association’s state championship tournament. All TJC students who competed earned at least one award.
In early February, the team traveled to the Texas Intercollegiate Forensic Association Spring Championship in San Antonio.
In January, the team competed in the Webster University Gorlok Gala in Saint Louis, Mo. There were 31 schools in attendance from 15 states and TJC placed sixth overall.
