NEW ASSIGNMENTS

Vicki Knox, executive director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, East Texas Region, accepted the position of national vice president of programs for MADD.

Ms. Knox will assume her new duties on June 16, and will divide her time between the national office in Dallas and the Tyler office until a new executive director is hired for the East Texas Region.

"I look forward to continuing my work with MADD East Texas to develop programs that help to save lives and prevent countless injures due to this violent crime," she said.



  • The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler announced Don Hunt was appointed its new chief nursing officer.

  • Hunt came to UTHSCT from Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark., where he was assistant vice president of nursing. He oversaw operations of the emergency room, intensive care unit, operating room, post anesthesia care unit, catheterization laboratory, obstetrics department and the employee health and wellness program. He received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Carolina University in Cullowee, N.C., and is working on a master's of science degree in nursing from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark.

    ACHIEVEMENTS

    The Tyler affiliate of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure announced Karen Durham, board member and grants chairwoman for the affiliate, was selected to serve as a consumer reviewer for the Department of Defense congressionally directed medical research programs, which include the 2008 Breast Cancer Research Program.

    Meetings will be conducted in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Ms. Durham previously served as an advocate reviewer for the Komen grants program. The program produced more than $100 million in grants in 2007-2008.



  • Stein Mart announced Christian Harvey, manager of the Tyler store, received an award for the store's ranking as second-highest in comparable store sales for the 2007 fall season.

  • Harvey re-ceived the award during a visit to his store by Stein Mart corporate officials.

    Comparable stores are stores that have been open for more than a year, excluding store closings and chain expansions.

    DEVELOPMENT

    Carroll and Mollie Bobo and Jim Lucas of United Country Bobo Realty attended the 18th Annual Outlook for Texas Land Markets in San Antonio. The event is a function of The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.

    Participates received updates on the economic outlook, population growth and real estate trends for Texas in the coming year.

    "We look forward to the wealth of information presented by the experts each year," Carroll Bobo said. "It helps us stay ahead of the curve in marketing East Texas properties."
