Mayor-Elect Bass To Be Sworn In Wednesday
BASS
By CINDY MALLETTE
Staff Writer

Tyler Mayor-elect Barbara Bass will be sworn in to office at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the City Council Chambers.

Ms. Bass will give her first public address as mayor at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the Tyler Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual State of the City luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Rose Garden Center, but tickets to the event have already sold out, Chamber officials say.

Just before the swearing-in ceremony, the Tyler City Council will canvass the votes from the May 10 city elections. Complete but unofficial returns from election night showed Ms. Bass won with 4,103 votes, or 60 percent of the total.

She will be taking the reigns from Joey Seeber, who is ending three terms as Tyler’s mayor. Due to term limits, Seeber could not seek a fourth term of office.

Ms. Bass works as a certified public accountant with more than 30 years of experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University, and she is a partner with Gollob, Morgan, Peddy & Co., PC.

Ms. Bass and her husband have lived in Tyler for 31 years. Her community involvement includes a string of volunteer and leadership positions. She currently serves as Foundation Board chairman for Hospice of East Texas; treasurer for the East Texas Symphony Orchestra Foundation; Foundation treasurer for Pollard United Methodist Church; Executive Advisory Board member for UT-Tyler; and Executive Board member of the Texas Society of CPA’s — the state professional association.

Ms. Bass says her top priority as mayor will be to attract and retain high-paying, quality jobs to boost Tyler’s economy. Other priorities Ms. Bass cited during her campaign for office included improving transportation and quality of life for Tyler residents.
