May 18: A Real Hero
ROSES: I wanted to tell Tyler about a wonderful co-worker I work with, Duane Boise, who is a kind and caring person. He is always willing to help his fellow employees out anyway he can.

We found out this past weekend that it does not stop there, he is willing to help a total stranger, risking his own health.

Duane was taking a call and when coming back from a set-up, he was flagged down by some people on the side of the road. He was asked if he had a fire extinguisher on his van, he responded, "Yes I do." He then saw a car that had ran off the roadway and was on fire.

He immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher and ran to the car. Upon arrival he noticed there were two occupants in the car.

Duane tried to put the fire out, but was unsuccessful. He heard screams coming from the backseat and saw a small child with arms out, pleading for help. He tried to free the child from the car seat but was blown back by an explosion. He got back up and ran back down to the car, by this time the car seat was melting and the child was being burned by the flames.

Duane reached in and freed the child. He has third degree burns to one of his arms, but never once thought of his own safety.

I spoke with him the following day and while he was experiencing physical pain from the burns, it was nothing compared to the pain he was going through emotionally.

The young boy had been air lifted to Dallas due to his injuries, and Duane did not even know his name or if he had made it.

He said it was the worst day of his life, because of the "not knowing." The following day Duane was contacted by the child's father and was thanked for saving his son's life. I am proud to know Duane, as is everyone up here. He is a hero. I just wanted to share this story, please keep him and the child in your prayers.
