The winners of the fifth Annual “Why My Mom is Best” Essay Contest were announced recently at the Discovery Science Place.

An essay contest for kids in Kindergarten through fifth grade, more than 200 children entered the contest to tell why their Mom (or Dad) was special to them. The award winners and their grade categories were:

The annual essay contest is co-sponsored by Chick-fil-A and Discovery Science Place. Each winner received a prize basket from Chick-fil-A and Discovery Science Place with the Grand Prize Winner receiving a giant Chick-fil-A Cow plush and an Annual Membership to Discovery Science Place for their family.

“This essay contest helps to develop writing skills and encourages self expression,” commented Michael Shanklin, Executive Director of Discovery Science Place. “We recognize the challenges that parents face in raising their families and want to help children express their gratitude in a manner that is meaningful to both the parent and the child. We were very pleased with the quality of the entries we received this year.”

Chick-fil-A has set out to be the best quick-service restaurant for the last 40 years and has a quest to enhance the lives of everyone they touch: those who know them as customers, employees, family and friends as well as those that know them only by name or reputation. Chick-fil-A works to live up to that mission nby promoting community connections through sponsorships, scholarships, programs for kids and other outreach initiatives.

The Discovery Science Place is a non-profit, hands-on learning environment whose purpose is to open young minds to science, technology, math and cultures in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
