Tyler ISD
  • Hubbard Middle School students whose classes raised the most money for the Husky Diner, got to make a lasting impression on the school last month.

  • Each sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade student in those classes got to put their handprints in the concrete of the new construction.

    The diner is set for completion before summer break.

  • Also at Hubbard, 14 students participated in the Duke Talent Search.

  • Students register to take the ACT or SAT during their seventh-grade year. They were: Mahmound El-Kishky, Kathryn Funderburg, Gene Lewis, Alexandria Brooks, Lauren Brown, Kendall Bullock, Justin DeSalvo, Rahil Doctor, Christopher Eubanks, Carli Faught, Rodrigo Gomes, John McCarter, Eryk McCoy, Ruhama Shakhawat, Joshua Smith and Mengxi Wang. El-Kishky, Funderburg and Lewis received state recognition and will attend a special banquet.

  • Robert E. Lee freshman Jessica Emery and Moore MST Magnet School sixth-grader Maria Chroneos placed in a recent regional science fair.

  • Miss Emery won second place at the regional competition for "Making Quality H2O for Hemodialysis: Year 3." She also received the U.S. Naval award medal, the Herbert Hoover Young Engineer award medal and for best scientific method.

    Miss Chroneos won third place and the Young Scientist Award for "Magnetism VS Heat."

    Both girls advanced to state competition. Miss Emery also took home an award from the national Kidney Foundation earlier in April.

  • John Tyler High School student Allie Smith received fourth place in the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event this month for sculpture.

  • The Robert E. Lee Color Guard recently competed in the Marching Auxiliary National Competition in Fort Worth.

  • The ensemble of seniors Allison Hughes, Kaylee Garvey and junior Chelsea Thompson received second place overall. Hughes, junior Haleigh Mosley, sophomores Lexxy LeBlanc, Cayla Thompson and junior Cheyenne Johnson received a superior rating on their ensemble. In the solo division, Miss Thompson, Miss Mosley and Miss LeBlanc received superior ratings.

    The team received a superior rating and fourth place overall.

  • Thornell Lewis participated in the Congressional Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., this spring. She was nominated by her teacher Lisa Harper.

  • The Robert E. Lee computer science team placed first in district UIL. Winners of the individual competition include, Eric Cousineau, first place; Jeff Parks, third place; Darren Hampton, fifth place; and Ahmed El Kishky for sixth place.

  • Austin Chambers, a student at Moore MST Magnet School, will travel to Austin and participate in Education in Action's Lone Star Leadership Academy this summer.

  • His selection for the academy was based on his academics, leadership ability and involvement in school and community activities. He was nominated by his teacher Jay Powell.
