T.K. Gorman Honors Athletes At Banquet

“It was great in ’08 and it will be fine in ’09,” said Rev. Jerome Milton, T.K. Gorman track coach and scholarship coordinator.

Upon hearing this, TKG’s seniors extinguished candles they were holding, symbolizing the end of their high school athletic careers.

It was the final note from an evening that celebrated the athletic accomplishments from the 2007-08 school year.

The Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic High School Athletic Banquet was held Tuesday at the Milam Joseph Center and catered by Spring Creek Barbeque.

Awards were given out for 15 boys and girls sports, including cheerleading.

Andy Navarro, president of the T.K. Gorman Booster Club began the festivities, introducing the first of several coaches to take the stage and honor their players.

Three students received special consideration with the gift of scholarships. The John Kelsey Award was presented to Maggie Murph and Paul Schick. Both students had to apply for the award by submitting an essay and application. Murph and Schick received a $500 scholarship for being chosen.

The Rev. Jerome Milton Award, a $1,250 scholarship given to an incoming senior girl student athlete who best exemplifies academic and athletics, was bestowed to DeDe Pierce.
