May 13: Go Back For Service
RANT: When I first started using housing utilities (gas, lights and water), you could go into town and talk to a real person who knew something about your town, area and you. If you wanted electricity, you put up a deposit and told them your address and they would tell you when the workmen would be there.
This made it easier for you to make arrangements to be at the worksite and ask any questions that would come up.
In this day and age, you call an 800 number, talk to several recorded messages (and, of course, several languages) punch in several numbers on the phone and maybe you will finally get a real person who asks for your state and town. When you try to give them your address, they want to know what larger town is close to your area.
My complaint is, what happened to good workmanship, customer service, and knowing your patrons that need a question answered about the service you are providing?
Whatever happened to utility offices in the town where you live that would provide the services you needed?
I know this is the computer age, but still one person in your town with a computer and a telephone could help people get the utilities they needed without having to wait for three to five days for the company to decide to issue a work order.
Electric, water and gas companies could get together and furnish an area with a computer, desk, phone and network services to help people and that person would most likely know the people who were needing services that lived in that town.
