May 12: Implies Strength
In response to a recent Cal Thomas column and a cartoon relating to President Jimmy Carter's trip to Israel and meeting with Hamas leaders.
Carter has done more to help humanity and try to bring peace to the world than any of our other former presidents. Contrast his Habitat for Humanity, trips to monitor elections in troubled regions and initiatives for peace with what Bill Clinton has done.
Clinton has done nothing but dial for dollars in the form of high-priced speaking engagements bringing him alone $109 million. Is any of that money being used for anything except Bill Clinton and getting Hillary elected?
It says in the Bible, "Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall know God." Contrast this with Cal Thomas' attempts to demonize all Muslims, Palestinians and Arabs. He calls them evil, etc. He never faults or criticizes any of the human rights abuses or war crimes committed by Israel. He calls himself a Christian, whereas Jimmy Carter practices by what Jesus taught.
It seems it is by deeds, not words, we shall be judged as to whether we really are followers of Christ. Certainly Christ did not call upon people to wage war and destruction against your "enemies." In fact, He taught the opposite.
Maybe there would be more peace and less strife in the world if we had more of Jimmy Carter's Christianity and less of Cal Thomas' Christianity. The cartoon implied Carter is weak; whereas to do something you believe regardless of the criticism and abuse you will receive implies strength, not weakness.
