Smith County To Honor Fallen Peace Officers
Smith County will remember fallen peace officers during a ceremony at T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler at noon on Wednesday.

Tyler and county law enforcement agencies, as well as the public, are encouraged to attend in support of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Hundreds of officers and their families attended last year’s ceremony which included the playing of bagpipes and a rifle salute in remembrance of the officers who died.

The ceremony will take place as part of Police Memorial Week which begins Sunday.

The names of Smith County’s officers killed while on duty will be read as flags fly at half staff. Nine officers from the county have died since 1946.
