May 11: Need Energy Policy
I read in the paper someone wanted one of the candidates for president to bring down the price of gas. Amen to that brothers and sisters.

Actually, we need someone in the White House who has a grasp of what we need in the way of a national energy policy. I was extremely disappointed with President Bush when he signed the latest energy bill which pushed use of Ethanol. We don't need a source of energy which takes an amount of corn that will feed 700 people just to make one tank of gas. We don't need an energy policy that lets the electric companies burn one billion tons of coal each year which dumps 3 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

We don't need an energy policy which forbids U.S. companies from drilling for oil in Alaska, drilling for oil off the coast of California, drilling in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida while Cuba leases drilling rights to China and allows then to drill between Cuba and Florida. We need an energy policy that will make us independent from foreign sources, and Ethanol is not the answer.

Does anyone know about nuclear power? Do any of the candidates care? If we can dismiss the Three Mile Island mentality we could produce cheap, clean electricity in the United States which would support a nationwide electrical grid which could anchor a fleet of hydrogen or electrical cars and reduce global warming fears. Think how much money that would save us.

Let's get after our leaders in Washington and Austin and tell them what we want.
