Colonial Dames Chapter Sets Spring Luncheon May 20
The Richard Borden Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, will celebrate spring with a luncheon and meeting, to be held at 11 a.m. May 20 at the original Hambrick House at historic Roseland Plantation, 2601 Texas Highway 64, Chapter President Anna Lee said.

Reservations are required by May 15, and may be made by calling 903-561-0085.

Mrs. Lee, who was honored at the Colonial Dames XVII Century Texas State Conference, as one of the four “Outstanding Dames in Texas,” will preside at the meeting.

The guest speaker, Texas Society Colonial Dames XVII Century President Colleen Petosa, will deliver a program on “Lizzie Borden.”

Awards from the Texas State Conference, held in San Antonio, will also be presented.

Mrs. Petosa received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and master’s degree from The University of Missouri. She is the past president of the Gov. Thomas Hinkley Colonial Dames XVII Century Chapter in Fort Worth and is also a member of both the Daughters of Colonial Wars and the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she has served as regent.

The Richard Borden Chapter will be distinguished at the luncheon with state awards for its program, “If You Lived in Colonial Times,” presented to hundreds of Tyler Independent School District elementary schoolchildren by members Billye Nolan, Paula Warren, Mrs. Lee and Sons of the American Revolution President Stephen Lee.

The chapter will also be honored as the first Colonial Dames XVII Century chapter in the nation to conduct an essay contest for middle school students.

A Memorial Service will also be conducted at the meeting to honor Richard Borden Chapter Organizing President, Martha Osa Wheeler Cole and member Virginia Grace Warren Boyle.

Additional awards will be presented for the chapter’s Colonial Heritage Month activities and contributions to the societies’ national, state and local scholarship funds.
