Robert E. Lee's Sepmoree An Early Favorite At Tyler Rose Junior Invitational
SEPMOREE
Robert E. Lee junior Katelyn Sepmoree took second at the Texas Junior Tour Championship in February.
Sepmoree will look to do herself one better as a favorite in the first-ever Tyler Rose Junior Invitational, scheduled for May 17-18 at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard.
The Tyler Rose Junior Invitational is sponsored by SPORTyler, the Tyler Morning Telegraph and HealthFirst.
The tourney is a stop on the Texas Junior Golf Tour.
Since beginning in 1989, the TJGT has expanded to 40 events and not only includes golfers from the Southwest, but internationally as well.
Sepmoree has been a three-year Class 5A regional qualifier and district runner up twice.
The junior took second at the District 12-5A golf tournament last moth, finishing behind Lee teammate Kelsey Kipp.
The junior followed that with a solid effort at regionals, tying for third place.
She eventually finished a putt away from qualifying for state as a medalist.
In the TJGT Tour Championship, Sepmoree shot 72-78—170 to trail Casey Grice of College station by one stroke.
Sepmoree has also competed in three TJGT tour events. In December at the Holiday Classic, Sepmoree shot 3-over to finish third. In her other two TJGT events, Sepmoree tied for 10th. This currently puts the REL junior 31st in the standings for Player of the Year honors.
In last year’s Tylerpaper.com Championship, Sepmoree carded 78-75—153 to finish second, one stroke behind Lee teammate Kelsey Kipp.
The Tyler Rose Junior Invitational is 36 holes.
