Greater Shiloh Sets Women's Conference
Greater Shiloh Women's Ministry will present the "Women of Excellence Conference" from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at 2525 W. Shaw St.

The theme of the conference will be "No More Excuses."

Charlotte Stephenson of Olivet Baptist Church of Austin will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Ora Adams of Corinth Baptist Church, Andrea Mayo of Galilee Baptist Church of Longview, Jackie McCowan of St. Violet Baptist Church, Debbie Broughton of New Life Worship Center and Hester Cotton of New Hope Conglee Church in Troup.

Breakfast and Lunch is provided and there will be door prizes for those present. Registration is $10 for women and $5 for "Young Ladies in middle or high school" said information from the Women's Ministry.

  • The "Jesus Day Celebration" will begin with The March for Jesus at 9 a.m. today at The Castle, 325 S. Broadway Ave.

  • "This is an all-family, fun-filled day with food, activities for children and fellowship with believers from all over East Texas," said information from event organizers. Join local pastors, churches and talent for prayer, praise and worship," from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Sisters for Christ will hold its second annual "Mothers Appreciation Night Out" at 7 p.m. May 17 at the Potpourri House, 3320 Troup Highway. The event will help Sisters in Christ on its mission "Helping to Eliminate Domestic Abuse," said information from Michelle Johnson, director of Sisters In Christ.

  • Dress for the event is semi-formal and costs $20 per person. Call 903-312-3221 for information.

  • Cross Brand Cowboy Church, 11915 Farm-to-Market Road 2015, will hold a Youth Ranch Rodeo Series beginning May 17. Ages 13 to 18-years old will participate in Cowboy Penning, Mugging and Sort & Doctor, said information from the church. Ages 12 and under will do Sort & Catch rather than Sort & Doctor. Ages 6 and under will enter Dummy Roping and Goat Flipping events.

  • Participation buckles will be given to everyone, and saddles to high-point teams for the series for 18-years and under. There will be a break for church.

    The entry fee is $200 per four-person team, per Rodeo. There is a one-time $40 membership fee per participant. Pre-registration is required and ends Monday evening. A Negative Coggins test and dress code is required.
