Pitcher Kelly Williams of top-seed Louisiana College tossed a one-hitter as the Lady Wildcats downed defending national champion Linfield (Ore.), 4-0, Thursday in a second round game of the NCAA Division III West Regional Softball at UT Tyler Ballpark.

Louisiana College (40-5) advances to the semifinals and will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against either Mary Hardin-Baylor or La Verne (Calif.).

Linfield, which earlier in the day defeated Redlands (Calif.), 1-0 in eight innings, falls into the consolation bracket where the Wildcats (37-5) will play Chapman (Calif.) at noon Friday.

Williams (8-2) was in control throughout, allowing only a sixth inning double by Meredith Brunette.

The Lady Wildcats handed Linfield’s Brittany Miller (17-2) just her second loss of the year. Miller, who had earlier pitched against Redlands, gave up two runs off three hits in two innings.

Louisiana College shortstop Ashleigh Clement led her team with a 3-for-4 outing with one run scored and an RBI, while catcher Erica Harwell was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Mary Hardin-Baylor 3,

Chapman (Calif.) 1

Third baseman Megan Bohne belted a three-run homer in the first inning to lead No. 3 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor to a 3-1 victory over No. 6 seed Chapman.

The homer was all the Lady Cru (33-9) would need as Kelsey Greeson (17-2) controlled the Panthers (27-10), allowing just five hits and one unearned run.

Mary Hardin-Baylor will play La Verne (Calif.) at 2 p.m. Friday.

Chapman will face Linfield (Ore.) at noon Friday.

Charlsie Cope had two hits for the Lady Cru, including a double. Sara Roman added the other hit.

Chapman pitcher Jennifer Winford (15-6) was a standout in the circle as well, allowing just two earned runs off of four hits.

Amanda Campbell led the Panthers with two hits (one a double) and an RBI. Dani Brown, SheaLynn Slover and Winford each had hits for Chapman.

Linfield (Ore.) 1, Redlands (Calif.) 0, 8 innings

In the first game of the day, it appeared neither team would score as pitchers Katie Brnca of Redlands and Brittany Miller of Linfield were in control.

Linfield finally scored in the bottom of the eighth.

McKensie Booth walked, while Stephanie Rice reached on an error. Booth and Rice moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Jenny Marshall.

Meredith Brunette was intentionally walked and Amanda Attleberger was hit by a pitch, forcing in Booth for the winning run.

Redlands (34-6) will play UT Tyler at 10 a.m. Friday.
