2 UT Tyler Students Receive Service Scholarships
Two University of Texas at Tyler students are 2008 spring semester recipients of a service scholarship.
Juniors Sarah DeSalvo, a journalism major from Tyler, and Anup Bhandari, a fine arts major from Longview, each received the Scott Palmer Service Scholarship in the amount of $250.
DeSalvo has served as a volunteer for the Literacy Council of Tyler as an English as a second language director/teacher since 2005.
DeSalvo plans to graduate in May 2009 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism, specializing in public relations. Upon graduation, she would like to become a freelance travel writer and an international ESL teacher.
A member of the UT Tyler Art Club, Bhandari, who is from Nepal, has raised funds for the 2005 tsunami victims in Southeast Asia by selling his art work. From the sales, $1,750 was sent to the International Red Cross' Tsunami Relief Effort. He also collected toys and clothes at UT Tyler for an orphanage in Nepal.
Bhandari plans to graduate in 2009 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in art. Upon graduation, he would like to continue in volunteer work helping people in third world countries.
