Farmer’s Market Offerings

East Texas Fresh Farmer’s Market, located in the parking lot of Bed, Bath and Beyond and the RoomStore at 4828 S. Broadway Ave., will offer an array of cool season produce, plants and more all from local farmers. Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, you can find free range eggs, turnip greens, collard greens, mustard greens, kale, carrots, radishes, chard, asparagus, onions, mixed lettuces, new potatoes, squash, spinach, fennel, wheat grass, herbs, tomato plants, potted herbs, blueberry and blackberry plants, rose bushes, Japanese maple, fig and dogwood trees, handmade soaps and bath and body lotions.

As the warm weather increases so will the farmers and their produce.

Salsa Contest Thursday
The Texas AgriLife Extension Office is hosting its first-ever Salsa Contest.

The contest is sponsored by the Smith Extension Education Association, and is inviting everyone and anyone to enter. Children also are eligible. Entry is $1.

Entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m, and judging will begin at 10 a.m. Judging will be based, not only on taste, but presentation. Recipes must be attached and include your name, division and county on the back.

The winner will be published in the Tyler Paper the next Wednesday. For more information, call 903-590-2980.

Jonas Brothers Like Breakfast
East Side Entrees is partnering with teen music phenomenon, the Jonas Brothers, for a national campaign to raise awareness about the importance of eating breakfast and the availability of Breakfast BREAKS, a NEW nutritious grab-and-go breakfast kit for kids.

Breakfast BREAKS are sold in a convenient single-serve box that contains a cereal from General Mills, a 100 percent fruit juice box from Minute Maid, a nutritious snack and utensils.

Each box has a handle and easy-to-open flip-up lid so that Breakfast BREAKS can be eaten at home or on-the-go. The suggested retail price is $2.49. The product is found in the cereal bar section of stores.

In the Tyler area, Breakfast BREAKS are available at Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Albertsons.
