May 6: What Compassion?
RANT: What has happened to compassion and human kindness? There certainly was not one little bit to be found April 24, one of the hottest afternoons we have had here in Tyler.
The bus from one of the larger senior living communities, with the name written in large letters on the side, driven by a uniformed driver was making deliveries of patients for doctor appointments.
He pulled into the drive of the clinic directly in front of the Olympic Center to unload the first patient.
As the driver went around to the back of the bus to begin lowering the lift, the hydraulic mechanism blew out and locked up the entire bus.
The driver immediately called the home for help with patients, then the tow company and then started to do the things he could do until help arrived.
But what did the good folks at the clinic do? Ask us if we needed water? (Yes) Were we hot? (Yes) Could they help? (Yes) They could help by stop yelling at us to "move that bus," that traffic was backing up. (We have three patients whose doctors are there.)
Our driver said, "We are doing the best we can.
One woman came to the front telling me to move the bus. I told her I was just a patient and she would just have to cool it and there was absolutely nothing I could do. She was not helping anything with all that yelling.

Just how did they expect us to move that bus, one driver and patients from the home? One would think that they had never seen or had an emergency before.
A few minutes later our driver had pulled up the back floor and managed by himself to release something so a door could be closed. Wish you could have seen those people go by. It did not matter with them, sick, wheelchair, heat, thirst; their only thought was of themselves.
Well, folks, what goes around, come around.
