Tyler Junior College Honors Student Talent During Art Show In May
The TJC Wise Auditorium Art Gallery will continue to showcase the talents of three outstanding Tyler Junior College art students through May 8th.
Exhibition is free and open to the public. Viewing hours are Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
These works include a variety of media including painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed media.
TJC students Rebecca Ashcraft, Sarah DuPree and Tiffany Petty were awarded a 2007 - 2008 performance grant, have a good grade point average and are enrolled in at least one TJC studio art class creating art to present in an end-of-semester exhibition.
The student showcase exhibition allows young artists exposure as well as the experience of creating exhibition-ready artwork.
Students display their art at a professional level and are integral in curating, promoting and installing the exhibition.
According to TJC officials, the judges chose Ms. Ashcraft for her "use of vibrant color swirls and spirals connected in two and three dimensional forms."
Ms. DuPree was chosen for her "superb craftsmanship and skill for realism combined with unconventional and unique design."
The third student, Ms. Petty was awarded for her "poetic and lyrically hypnotic paintings, collages and relief sculptures."
